Kusamono Schalen/ Pots
Pflanzgefäße werden in erster Linie nach ästhetischen Gesichtspunkten ausgewählt. Soll ein Kosamono als Akzentpflanze (Shitakusa) verwendet werden, dann muß man das Hauptobjekt (Bonsai oder Suiseki) in die Überlegungen bei der Auswahl der Pflanzschale einbeziehen.
Für Kusamono werden hart gebrannte frostharte Keramikschalen, Schalen aus Glasflüssen, Porzellanschalen, Lackschalen, Steine mit Hohlräumen, Schwemmholz usw. verwendet. Die Farbe des Pflanzgefäßes sollte in einem harmonischen Verhältnis zum Hauptobjekt (Bonsai oder Suiseki) stehen.
Zu einem Bonsai mit einer nicht glasierten Schale wird eine Akzentpflanze mit einer glasierten Schale verwendet .Zu einem Bonsai mit einer glasierten bunten Schale würde eine Akzentpflanze mit einer dunklen Schale, einem Naturstein oder einem Schwemmholz passen.
Flache Schalen suggerieren weite Landschaften und sind daher besonders geeignet. Bevorzugt werden runde, ovale oder asymmetrisch geformte Schalen. Mittelhohe oder hohe Schalen können nur verwendet werden, wenn das Hauptobjekt während der Präsentation auf einem Tisch steht, denn die Hauptblattmasse der Pflanzen sollte in ihrer Höhe nicht über den Rand des Tisches oder einer Holzplatte hinausgehen, auf dem der Bonsai oder ein Suiseki als Hauptobjekt steht. Ausnahmsweise darf eine hohe elegante Blüte oder ein filigraner Samenstand, die über die Hauptblattmasse der Akzentpflanze hinausragen oder ein einzelner Grashalm die zuvor genannte Höhengrenze überschreiten. Es sollte jedoch nur eine Blüte, ein Blütenstand oder ein Samenstand sein, nicht mehrere.
Hohe Schalen werden vorwiegend für Kaskadengestaltungen verwendet. Solche Schalen haben oft einen quadratischen, einen sechseckigen oder achteckigen Querschnitt.

Planting containers are mainly chosen according to aesthetical considerations. If a Kusamono is to be used as an accent plant (Shitakusa), the main object (a bonsai or a suiseki) needs to be considered too when selecting a pot for it.

For Kusamono one can use high-fired frost proof ceramic pots, pots from vitrified material, porcelain pots, lacquer pots, stones with cavities, driftwood and other material. The color of the planting container should be in harmony with the main object (the bonsai or suiseki).

A bonsai in an unglazed pot is often combined with an accent plant in a glazed pot. An accent plant in a dark pot, a natural stone or a piece of driftwood would go well with a bonsai in a glazed colorful pot.

Shallow pots suggest open landscapes and are particularly suited. Usually one chooses round, oval, or irregularly shaped pots. Medium deep and deep pots can only be used when the main object is presented on a table, since the height of the main foliage of the accent plant should not exceed the height of the table or of the wood slice on which the bonsai or suiseki is placed as main object. As an exceptions from this rule, elegant flowers on long stems, a single delicate seed head or a single blade of rass may reach higher than the main foliage of the accent plant and exceed this height limit. This should only be a single flower or seed head, not several.
 

Deep pots are primarily used for cascade designs. Such pots often have a square, hexagonal or octogonal shape.
